12 May Photo Puzzle-Slider Birthday Card
Today I’m revealing Birthday Card #2 of 7. This is out of order because I had to figure out how to mask the identity of the little boy by request. It’s a “puzzle-slider card” and I used a picture of the birthday boy as the card front “puzzle”. I switched the usual order of the puzzle front and made the top long piece the right-side piece so I wouldn’t cut a portion of his head or torso when cutting the puzzle piece for that side. Other than that, I mostly followed instructions for this type of card that I found online here but made a few changes.
I selected a picture of my brother from when he was a cute little toddler with his first bike. My Dad was in the Air Force for more than twenty years so all of us kids grew up on Air Force bases and in military service communities all over the country and even in Guam. That’s why you can kind of see what looks like base housing in the picture background. THANKS Dad, for your service!
To make this card I cut a piece of Crystal Stardream Metallic 105lb cover cardstock to 9.5″ X 4.25″ and scored it at 1″, 2″, 7.5″, and 8.5″. After accordion folding the card base on the score marks, I cut the 5″ X 3.75″ picture in half along the long side so there were two 1 7/8″ X 5″ pieces. Next, I cut the top piece to make one 3″ piece and one 2″ piece and did the same for the bottom piece reversing the side of long and short pieces. After doing so I was left with four pieces total. I mounted each of the four pieces to black glossy/mirror cardstock allowing for a 1/4″ mat and then adhered the matted pieces to the card front.
For the card inside I added a pop of color with a piece of Flame Stardream Metallic 81lb text cardstock as the background because his favorite color is orange. The inside sentiment is from the Studio Katia, Happy Birthday To You stamp set. And then I added diecuts of his age cut from the Flame Stardream Metallic cardstock and put them in corners on the inside.
Below you can see what the card looks like when you slide it open. Fun and simple and I love my idea of using an old photo for the puzzle.

Until Next Time,
Stamp Yourself Happy!
