29 Sep Oh Baby Baby
By request I made two Baby Cards. In making these cards I learned 3 valuable lessons:
1. Less is sometimes more.
2. When you get frustrated, and nothing looks right, go back to the basics and make it simple.
3. Deciding what you want to make, before you start making the card, saves you a headache in the long run.
From the start I had too many ideas for card designs. So naturally, instead of making a definitive choice I decided to start on two different ideas, before either was fully formed, thus creating more work and frustration for myself. You can probably imagine how well that went. LOL.
For some unknown and yet crazy reason, I thought a baby themed Trifold Shutter Card would be cute. I had completely forgotten why I have only ever made one Trifold Card. It didn’t take long for the flashbacks of the Stampscapes Trifold Shutter birthday card I made for my Dad to flood my memory. I absolutely loved how that trifold shutter card turned out (see it in the pictures below) but, Oh My Goodness, making it was a nightmare. Stamping and cutting the scene so in each section of the card it lined up correctly when the card was opened completely and then coloring the image was daunting.
Convinced that a baby themed trifold shutter card would be easier to make, especially if I didn’t use stamped images that required coloring, I pressed forward. Nothing says baby girl like pink and lavender, so I used Pretty In Pink and Wisteria Wonder (discontinued) cardstock from Stampin’ Up. In the pictures of the cards the colors are muted for some reason because the pink looks mauve and the lavender looks gray but in person the colors are truly pink pink and lavender. I used embossing folder impressions to decorate each section to avoid stamping and coloring. I used: We R Memory Keepers – Quilted embossing folder in Wisteria Wonder for the background mat of each section and then the retired Cuttlebug – Swiss Dots and Baby Shower embossing folders, in Pretty In Pink for the top layer.
On the card front I used the Modern Serif Alphabet diecut set from My Favorite Things to spell out girl and the retired Stampin’ Up banner stamp “Sweet Baby” which I fussy cut. The sentiment I used is called Greatest Blessing from Endless Creations Stamps and the word “Adorable” is a random clear stamp I had on hand.
And here is my Baby Themed Trifold Shutter Card below:
For the second baby card I decided to do a girl version of the Onesie Card I did for baby boy Xavier last month. I used the same colors from Stampin’ Up that I used in the trifold card, Pretty In Pink and Wisteria Wonder to accent the printed cardstock I used for the onesie. I diecut the Top Dog, Onesie diecut from one of the printed papers from the Little Miracle – Baby Girl 6X6 pad from Little Birdie. I cut her name and a mat using my Silhouette Cameo 4.
I diecut the sentiment, “Oh, Baby”, using the diecut from Simon Says Stamp and mounted it using foam dots so it would sit above the onesie and Paige’s name. The sentiment inside the card is the “Twinkle Twinkle” poem stamp from Stampendous which I stamped and embossed in black. The final card is below and again the colors are not as vibrate in the pictures as they are in person, but the image is below:
Well, I’m ALL babied out. In my next posts I’ll share a wedding card someone requested I make for them.
Until next time,
Stamp Yourself Happy!
