25 Jul Tulips In Hobnail Pitcher
Everyone needs a friend who prays for them, and I’m blessed to have more than one. In the spirit of working my way down the list I made when I started this new Blog, I selected the Tulips In Hobnail Pitcher, digital stamp from Power Poppy Stamps to make a card for a friend of mine who always prays for me. It’s funny because she’s terrible at keeping in touch day to day but if I call her at 2:00am in need of prayer she always picks up the phone and does just that, prays for me. The BEST kind of friend is one that is there when you’re in need of prayer.
I wanted to try a new technique I saw seven or eight years ago on the A Card In Progress blog site. The card maker used dies to insert a word in the middle of the card’s image. I decided to cut the word “FRIEND” in the middle of the stamp image and raise the letters, so they stand out. The concept for the card was easier than its execution.
First, because it’s a digital stamp I had to size it to work with the card concept. This wasn’t difficult but took a few attempts before getting the right size. Next, was the hardest part, coloring the image. I admittedly am not the best at producing realistic looking images with my coloring skills. But practice makes perfect, so I’ll keep trying. I started with this image below:
It was a lot to color, but I used my Copic Sketch Markers and got the job done after playing around with getting the right color combinations for shading etc. When I started, I said I was going to color the image twice so that if I messed up on one, I could keep going with the other without having to start over. However, after coloring the image once there was no way I was going to do it again. After coloring the image, I made a template so I could cut the word “FRIEND” from its center. Then I stacked each letter four times gluing them together with Gina K, Connect Glue. The letters were raised but I left the letter centers even with the card base to better highlight the letter dimensions.
Once again, I sprayed the card front with Iridescent Glitter Dust to add some Bling. For the inside of the card I used an Iris-Inspired Stamps, sentiment stamp from the Hello Friend set. It perfectly states what I wanted to relay to my friend and is pictured below:
I am quite pleased with how this card turned out and I really like the raised word within the image. As usual, it’s hard to see the sparkling shimmer from the Glitter Dust in the pictures but trust me it adds a nice finish to the card. It’s also hard to see the raised word in the pictures of this card but I’m impressed with the technique and will definitely use it again. In fact, I already have another idea for a card to use it on.
Below are some pictures of this card and hopefully you can catch the shimmer and the depth of the raised word within the image as you look them over.
That’s all for now, until next time:
