16 Jun Father’s Day Card
Father’s Day snuck up on me and I almost missed the opportunity to make my Dad a card and get it to him on time. That would have been tragic. As I considered Father’s Day what kept coming to my mind was that my Dad “is the BEST in ALL the world”. It’s something I used to say when I was a little girl and my Dad would teasingly sing me the song, “I Can Do Anything Better Than You” and we’d go back and forth singing the chorus. So, I decided to incorporate that into his Father’s Day card this year. Once again, I decided on an 6×6 easel card
Using my MISTI, I stamped the now retired Stampin Up, World Map stamp with Memento, Tuxedo Black dye ink and colored it with the following Pan Pastels chalks: Oxide Green, Turquoise, Phthalo Blue, and Burnt Sienna. Once colored, I put it back in the MISTI and stamped it again with VersaFine, Onyx Black ink so I could emboss it with what else but Mystic Fire embossing powder, to give it some Bling. I matted it on black glossy cardstock.
Next, I used the Sizzix, Globe diecut on glossy black cardstock matted to a Spellbinder, Standard Circle diecut as the backdrop for the outside sentiment. I didn’t have a sentiment for a Dad that included the world theme so I typed one on the computer and printed it on Stardream Metallic, Crystal 81 lb text cardstock, with my laser printer so I could heat foil it. I cut it out with a stitched circle Lawn Fawn, Stitched Circle diecut and attached it to the Globe cutout using dimensional foam tape. I utlimately, used dimensional foam tape to adhere the sentiment base to the card front as well.
For the inside portion of the easel card, I embossed the Stampin Up, World Map embossing folder and mounted it to black glossy cardstock. I used my MISTI and to stamp and emboss two of the sentiments from the Divinity Designs, Good Man Set. Finally, I used Diamond Stickles throughout the card front image to add more Bling.
I’m really disappointed that the Bling never shows up in pictures because this card’s Bling is impressive.
I finished the card and didn’t quite like it because something just seemed off. So, I left it overnight and looked at it again the next day. I finally decided that the green strip on the right didn’t look cohesive with the left side of the card. The only problem was that I had already adhered the green strip with Scor Tape and anyone who has ever used it knows, once it’s down you’ll never get it up. In addition, the sentiment circle was also adhered and couldn’t be removed. My only option was to put something on top of it, but I didn’t have any blue paper the same color as the blue colored in the stamped image. As my last resort, I cut a piece of white cardstock and used the same Pan Pastel chalks to color it. I traced the area where it was going so I could cut out a half circle so it would go underneath the sentiment circle. Next, I mounted it to the black glossy cardstock, leaving an eighth inch margin.
Below are the pictures of the final card as well as the original card with the green strip on the right.
