22 May Turnabout
I just used a stamp that I purchased in 2017 but had never used. Yeah me!! It seems my “Game Plan” is working.
It is the “Triangle Turnabout” stamp (now retired) from Concord & 9th. It’s a little tricky to use but makes really cool multi-colored or tone on tone backgrounds. When the stamp first came out several years ago, they recommended you make a guide to help you get the design lined up right with each of the four turns of the stamp. Now, they sell a guide, the Turnabout Jig, and even made it sticky to hold your paper.
I bought the “Turnabout Jig” to make my life easier while making this card and promptly ruined it, without thinking, when I decided to heat emboss on one of the stamped turns. Of course you’re NOT supposed to heat the plastic jig. Crazy, right? Yep, it was.
Anyway, I made my own guide and after three attempts at making the background design line up correctly I was happy enough with the result to proceed with the card. I was using this background for one of seven Birthday cards for my brother and coordinated
colors that would go with orange, his favorite color. I did heat embossing one turn of the stamped images using VersaMark Ink and silver embossing powder.
After working so hard creating the background I refused to cover it up with sentiments etc. So, I incorporated the sentiment in with the background by die-cutting the sentiment in the middle using my Simon Says Stamp, Happy Birthday Brush Script Die.
I liked the way it turned out and will definitely keep practicing with the stamp to perfect the design. For anyone who might want to give it a try I posted a demonstration video below:
Until next time:
